At Mimaki, sustainability is Important.
We believe in the development of sustainable options that are inclusive and beneficial for everyone and the planet. We understand that sustainability is not just about the environment, but about social responsibility for the generations to come.
With increasing customer demand for sustainable solutions, Mimaki positions itself at the forefront of printing technology that not only advances your business goals, but also minimises your overall environmental impact.
Our carbon footprint is measured by the total amount of greenhouse gases emitted in our daily lives. Through reducing this, we can create a more sustainable environment.
Reducing our energy consumption contributes to energy waste reduction and low energy costs. This is not only beneficial for the planet, but also for our wallets!
It is our responsibility to ensure that our planet Earth is liveable for all its inhabitants and future generations. Because our planet is our home.
UV printing is a form of digital printing that uses ultra-violet light to instantly dry or cure the ink as it is being distributed across the surface of a material (called a ‘substrate’). With less ink and energy being consumed, UV becomes both a more sustainable and truly versatile choice. UV printers can print stunning colours and incredible textures on almost any kind of media, including rigid materials such as glass, tiles, wood, aluminium and acrylics, as well as flexible media such as wallpaper and canvas.
At Mimaki, UV LED is no new venture – we were among the first manufacturers to adopt the technology.
And with adoption on the rise, Mimaki is at the forefront of that adoption growth, holding the number one market position in this sector.
Choosing UV over other print technologies, such as latex printing, can offer a great deal of benefits to your business. From reduced CO2 emissions, materials wastage and lower energy & inks consumption, UV printing becomes a more cost effective and environmentally friendly choice.
In addition, UV printing offers a far wider choice of substrates including heat-sensitive and rigid media options, ultimately combining the technologies of multiple printers into one. For a complete overview of the benefits of UV versus latex printing, download our Infographic.
We have a wide range of UV LED inkjet printers to meet your every printing need. Our most cost effective is the UJV100-160, which utilises Mimaki’s 6th generation LED-UV technology to cure / dry the ink instantly. Or for high performance grand-format printing, consider Mimaki’s UJV55-320. It comes equipped with the added versatility of twin-roll simultaneous printing and utilises the newly developed LUS-120 UV curing ink, including white. Our UCJV300 Series is equipped with a 5-layer print function and includes Print & Cut, making it extremely versatile for all your signage needs.

In September 2015, the United Nations launched the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for all 193 member states as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity, now and into the future.
Our inkjet technologies contribute to the following 9 goals:
We provide «Simplified Face Shields» made by our 3D Printer 3DFF-222 at no charge.
We save water with sublimation printing. And reduce pollution of freshwater by textile dyeing with inkjet printing.
Digital on-demand printing shortens the logistics flow.
An inclusive and fair working environment for all employees.
Environmentally friendly equipment can be created through inkjet printing technology.
Sublimation printing helps to produce environmentally sustainable products.
Eco friendly inks and eco-ink cartridges reduce the operator’s health load.
Eco friendly inks and eco-ink cartridges are better for the environment.
We will continue to provide support using our 3D printing technology.
Because Mimaki excels in innovation and quality within the industry, we offer various inkjet printing solutions that create less waste and less harm to the environment.
By promoting inkjet printing technologies in the marketplace, Mimaki helps to increase adoption of eco-friendly print-on-demand strategies. This helps customers reduce excessive inventories and associated waste by printing only what’s needed.
Mimaki established an inkjet lab to promote state-of-the-art inkjet solutions. Not only does this ensure innovative solutions for our target markets in the graphic arts, but also allows us to explore the use of inkjet technologies in other industries.
These projects contribute to our continual efforts to develop lower cost, more environmentally friendly production processes in the graphic arts and beyond.
A digital on-demand printing system enables you to print only the necessary quantities, thus reducing excessive inventories. With plate-less inkjet technology, you can produce water-saving and low-waste printing. While the ability to set up clean working environments with space-saving equipment enables the production of peripheral cities, close to the point of consumption. By linking consuming and producing regions, you reduce time and costs for logistics.
Using Mimaki’s proprietary raster and vector technologies, we will drive the further development of digital on-demand printing:
Raster Technology (for inkjet printers) discharges ink only on the design portion and requires only a small amount of ink to print. It also eliminates the environmental impact of processing effluent from plate washing.
Vector Technology (for cutting plotters) applies highly accurate cutting technology of media, contributing to the protection of resources by eliminating wasteful printed material.
End-users in the Netherlands can contact Mimaki Europe B.V. regarding disposal options. For all other countries, end-users should contact their local Mimaki dealer to obtain the required disposal information. For more information about how Mimaki can help improve your sustainability, please contact us.
The European Union introduced the Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) with the aim of reducing the amount of hazardous substances in landfills. Mimaki highly recommends end-users properly dispose of this material. We label electrical and electronic equipment with the “crossed out wheeled bin”™ symbol to alert consumers that these items should be properly disposed for effective recycling and reuse.
Big or small, each step towards a more sustainable environment counts! This is why we would like to acknowledge the little things that contribute to a bigger impact. Thanks to our Mimaki Stars, we are able to implement these changes with ease and support!
Many of our Mimaki stars bike to work! We are lucky that our European Headquarters, based in the Netherlands, has one of the best biking infrastructures in the world. Combined with a mostly flat terrain and its central location, there is simply no excuse.
One of the outcomes of the pandemic was the greater emphasis of working from home. Now, Mimaki employees enjoy the benefits of flexible work locations, minimised travel and improved quality social time with colleagues.
Our goal is to make our office as sustainable as possible using reusable products. Our coffee hubs make use of reusable glasswear from our kitchen and we participate in the Nespresso recycling program for all our capsules!
To reinforce Mimaki’s commitment to the development of inks and inkjet systems that reduce environmental impact, Mimaki has focused on maintaining these standards through acquiring the following certifications:
The STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is an independent testing and certification system for textile raw materials, intermediate and end products at all stages of production. This strict certification can only be applied to products that meet more than 300 requirements relative to the handling of harmful substances. Mimaki achieved OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification of raw materials for inks at the Nissenken Quality Evaluation Centre.
ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX® authenticates the safety of chemicals used during the production of textile dyes, pigments and finishing agents. The following inks have achieved ECO PASSPORT certification from OEKO-TEX®: Sb320/420, Sb411, Sb53/300, Sb54/310/410/MLSb510, Sb610 and MLRC500. These certifications reinforce Mimaki’s commitment to develop ink and inkjet systems that reduce environmental impact.
GREENGUARD Certification ensures that a product has met some of the world’s most rigorous and comprehensive standards for low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into indoor air, and is acceptable for use in environments such as schools and healthcare facilities.
Mimaki achieved GREENGUARD and GREENGUARD Gold certifications for its UV-curable inks (LH-100, LUS-120, LUS-150, LUS-170, LUS-190, LUS-200 and LUS-210), its solvent inks (AS5, BS4, CS250 and SS21) and its latex ink (LX-101). This certification enables our customers to maintain creativity in a diverse set of markets while printing sustainably.
